What is money?
Money is a tool people use to exchange value. Before money, people often traded things directly. Someone might trade chickens for a blanket—but that only worked when both people wanted what the other person had.
Money made trading easier because people agreed it could represent value. Today, money allows us to exchange our time, skills and work for things we need or want.
Why does money matter?
Money does not make someone more important, but it can create choices. It can help pay for food, housing, transportation, education, emergencies and opportunities.
Having money does not guarantee happiness. However, not having enough money can create stress and limit choices. Learning how to manage money can give you more control over your decisions.
Three truths about money
Money is a tool that helps you build the future you want—not a score that tells you how valuable you are.
